My friend, Fajar Abadi, was making art performance and exhibition

after that in National Gallery Indonesia. The performance are how to

making strangers smile. He baked muffin and sell it in public and

everyone who want it can have it by paying with smile, only smile.

The performance called "KUEHSENYUM" it means smile cookies. He really

done well with the concept and results. This is the video about it.

I'm on it too, helping him like everyone else, because this is really

fun :)

Blue Water Adventure

Kids Room, what do you imagine about this? I say bright colors, fun decorative, and of course adventure. Kids like adventure, even if it's only occur in their head. So when I have to make interior design for kids study room, I choose "Adventure" to be the theme.

And here we go, Blue Water Adventure study room. With extra light from skylight, ship diorama, starry lighting, and blue colors everywhere makes the room look like a scene from marine movies.

If I still a kid, I'll love this room for study. But honestly, even now I'm not a kid anymore, I still love it to be my study room ;p

Hi, how are you bloggers? It's Raining Season now in my place. Make me cold for a week and my feet always feel wet. But I like the morning after heavy rain.

Recently I have news that a book has released! It's the book with my illustration on it, "Hikayat Pemanen Kentang" by Mugya Syahreza Santosa. Cover design made by the publisher, but hey, it's my illustration there... I'm so happy :)

Few days earlier, I have an Illustration projects and I think I really love the job. It's a really creative job and make me happy to do it again.

Between my interior projects I often do some drawing about fictional characters. My friend, Helga Swadharma, ask me to collaborate with her. I take her offer without a doubt. We decided to make some graphic art illustration, I make character sketch in BW and she add color and finishing touch. She done it very well, thanks to her and her amazing skill, now I can see my fictional character built in some great aura.

Secret Bed Behind Curtain

I'm writing about secret room design nowadays, my soon-published book "25 Desain Ruang Rahasia" will be on bookstore about one to three months after this, it's talking about how to design secret room, etc.

I do believe that secret room don't have to be appear as a 'room', but it can be a private isolated space.

Secret space can be made from partition or some border whether massive or see-through. Secret area like this don't have to be bordered by massif wall, but only by differences in the material applied to the elements of space (floor, wall, ceiling).

One of the border that can be applied uniquely as the entrance is a curtain. The curtain can be used as a camouflage that makes people think that there's wall and window behind it. Secret room can be made by utilizing the image of this stereotype. Rarely do people will think there is a secret room behind a curtain.

Fancy Purple Kitchen with Stripe Light

Kitchen set design is often made with clean and modern concept, this time I made it with fancy concept using fancy patterned laminate materials.

Purple became the main color of this kitchen set with red accents on the shelves which function are for spices rack or bookshelf. Purple is also emerging as a major accent in the kitchen set body that is derived from the LED light with acrylic cover and horizontal line form.

So, this is my design:

Image below is LED Click Stripe with purple lights, you can have it in hardware store or lamp store. They sale it in meters.

Cheerful Kitchen With Orange

In interior design, color is one of the most important element. In art, the colors can mean a certain reflection of light that is affected by the pigment contained in the surface of the object and each color can give a certain impression and identity as an observer of social conditions. For example, white color will give the impression of pure and clean, bold, and red give the impression of passion and bravery.

One of the interesting color is Orange. Orange is often found in modern-minimalist house design, as a main color or as a decorative element. This color has a familiar impression, young, creative, and dynamic so it's provide psychological effects of friendship and warmth. In addition, the color orange can also provoke appetite, and because of that orange is often used to kitchen set color scheme.
If you are someone extrovert, friendly, and happy to entertain friends, the color is suitable to be applied to your kitchen. It can be obtained from the finishing such as HPL or Plastic Laminated Sheet (ex.decosheet), you can choose Matte or glossy, depending your taste.

Besides Orange, of course there should be a neutral color that balances the colors in the room. Neutral colors which is better be used is black. This color is firm and can appear when it juxtaposed with orange, instead of neutral colors like bright white.

This is my design of modern minimalist design with orange color scheme.

The kitchen is designed like a Japanese Ramen Shop, complete with a hole in the wall for serving food. There isn't smoke hoods in this kitchen, but there's mini exhaust planting on the wall above the window. The window is controling the air circulation in the kitchen, if the window can not be opened somehow, the exhaust regulate the circulation of air instead.

Ergonomic for Indonesian Pantry

In my campus life, when I want to design something, I'll looking to the standard books for measuring and making technical drawing. But when it come to the real world of professional works, I found that most of the Indonesian people have their own measure, so they have their own standard in ergonomic, whereas my books taught me about European standard.

I often found myself reducing the height of credenza or cabinet pantry for example, to make clients comfortable with it.

But when it comes to personal taste, size can be changed according to the person wishes. Sometimes I also add height to furniture. This is approximately the suitable ergonomics of pantry for Indonesian. I hope it can give a little help for anyone who need this. (image are private documents)

"What do You Want" Shelves

This days, book cabinet have a great competitors, it's Shelves ^^
More peoples love shelves than cabinets. Why not? shelves gave spacious impression, and make room look lighter.

So, I made this simple shelves. Made from 'check' form, and (again) it's modular. I love puzzle system on my designs. This Shelves can be mounted however you want. Vertically Stacked, Horizontal Line, or Diagonal row.
It's all up to you. It's go for one piece on every purchasing, so buyers can bought as many as they want, and do some creativity. ^^

Mood board for Seaside Interior

I set this mood board for my next private project. I always do some work that aren't payed, just for my pleasure.

But, have you thought about seaside house on urban living? I do think about it.

The biggest reason is because I like ocean, a lot. But I was wondered how if I found some comforting aura in my urban life.

Ocean are comforting, the color, the sound of waves, and seagulls conversation. Of course I wont bring that literally to a room. We just have to imagine it and voila! It's just like that.

Exactly not that simple, but I'd tell you, to bring that comforting aura is not that difficult like you thought.

We don't have to buy expensive furniture, placing expensive home accessories. Nothing of that is needed. We just have to imagine about Ocean.

What kind of ocean do you want in your room?

The one that bring back memories?

The one that have your spirit high?

The one that always make you fun?

Or the one that bring your creativity all out.

You just have to choose it. Like I do, I like The one that comforting me with seaside lifestyle. So I bring seaside lifestyle to my urban life. It's like children plays, sweet jumper, or reading my books on white coach with blue stripes.

I have it in my head, and soon I will come with that design. Now I just have to imagine it like I want, perfectly.

Santorini Architecture

If you see the right sidebar, you can see pictures of Santorini, place I want to go to. Santorini is a beautiful island at greece. I reaaaaaaaaally love the pictures of it. One day I'll go there for sure. Let me tell you why I love that place even I never go there before.

First, I like the color of every house in that island. The blue....the white...and the gradation of sunshine in every side of the house. It so magical, like popping out from a space, and colored by ocean. That kind of architecture makes me feels calm, and gave a nostalgic feelings, I don't know why.

Secondly, I like ocean. I like the blue, I like the sound of it waves, I like to see it from high places. So the pictures of Santorini are perfects!!

For architecture, maybe I like it like that because it's just like my design style : clean, play with form, and compact (I guess).

There are so many reason why I love Santorini. I hope I can go and live there someday.

It's Outside and Inside

This is my works when I was in a competition to make a furniture from cement which can be set on interior or exterior. I make this, minimalist double bench with hole in every side. That holes make it lighter so even it made from cement, it still can be placed everywhere. I also made the holes for umbrellas hanger. I called this "TwoFace".

PILLAR STUDIO

I always dreaming about my own studio. A little studio with friendly and warm people around me, designing projects and many more. Maybe I'll make it near my house and the studio has cute cubicles, with bookshelf everywhere. Sunshine will go through the windows every morning and everyone will work with happy faces.

I even has a name for it : Pillar Studio.

Pillar definition is main structure(s) which is stand for other important structure. Without Pillar , There wont be any ceiling, or anything else above.

So, When I will make this dream come true?

Now I still making my own progress. There are many things that I should learn in this 'Design World'. But sooner or later I will have that:

Modular Bench

I was surfing in net, when I saw this picture. It's made from rattan, and remind me of my previous bench design which I made 2 years ago. Of course It's not the same, but I know it has a same concept, but I like both of them. Here's mine :

Made from synthetic rattan, stainless steel for the legs and leather upholstery for the couch. The main module is the 3 (first picture up there), and it can be attached or not, depend on choices

My works on media! Yippiiiie!!!!! It's posted by Putri Dwimirnani, She's Interior Designer and reporter at IDEA Online (online magazine about home interior). She write about my CD rack, I used to call it Darth Vader, because I think about his helmet form when I made it (but when people see it, they maybe not see what I saw...hehe)

Book Cabinet, Let's Have fun!

When we talk about interior design, we imagine a room with some functional space designed with great taste. And one thing we can't separate from interior design is furniture design.

Now people more creative and they always want something new, so they demand more and more new design. So that's how this cabinet design been born.

I made it when I still on my internship. Still a House at Spring Hills Town House project (the one with the elevator, remember my earlier entry? I had write about the bedroom in that house, now we'll talk about one of the built-in furniture in that house)

I'm setting it for 2nd floor common room, where children are playing and studying. My client want a cabinet with stair so their children can reach book at high shelf. But instead of making stair attached to a cabinet, I make cabinet making stair.

When you open the shelf, you can stand on it and you can reach the book you want at high place. if you want to get the book inside it, you just simply open the top, as seen in picture

Urban Art on Interior Space

Many people nowadays knows about urban art. It's become a big issues in the city.

Some people knowing that urban art is street art. It's not wrong, exactly, street art is part from urban art. It has issues in the city, it were often happened in the city, and we as urban people, live with it.

But sometimes, we didn't notice it.

We can see street art in every place in town. Now, when you see at the flyover column, you will catch a graphic image of something/someone (figure) say about an issues in the city : politic, lifestyle, generation gap, etc.

Is it art? or just vandalism?

People has their opinion about it. Many of them call it an art, and many of them call it a bad vandalism. Personally, I think it's an art.

When you see some graphic with many color, looks great and have some public message to say, you can call it vandalism. But, if we think about it, is it a vandal? it's not like breaking any public space. Street art, makes that lame space become creative. I think it's a good thing.

Some street art doesn't have a full color design, but it has some artist profile, positive message, and spirit on it. We can discuss about it in detail later. Urban art (or in our case now, street art) have many things to tell. But now, we'll going back to this blog theme ; Interior.

I often try to apply urban art on interior design concept. But people always like "urban art is a public art, how can you apply it in interior? it has to be in exterior!"

I.Don't.Care

But when I explore it, it's true that it's hard to apply it on interior space except as graphic psychology on that space. And soon, I have a dead end. I've searched everywhere about street art on interior, but there are none of them exist, then I saw this hotel :

I like this hotel a lot! It have unique concept, make our psychology played when we enter every room. Yes, it's not only have some urban art (graphic street art) on some room, but also graphic art and other concept. but, when I have a dead end about applying urban art on interior space, I'll open this site : http://www.hotelfox.dk/

You can see that the wall painted with some figure, character, or even plot. Not only two dimensional graphic, forms on every room are different. That's why I understand that graphic on interior is an important element.

Daughter's Bedroom : Concept, cute and sweet room. I make it more private with built in bed and reading light upon them.

Son's Bedrom : Concept colorful boyish. With blue as main color, I use glass for partition between bed area and study area.
